Shield absorption & T10 4-piece

We all know some non-T10 pieces are better than the T10 pieces. The new T10 4 piece bonus looks quite nice, but is it worth to get rid of Leggings of Woven Death or Gloves of False Gestures?

On Penancepriest’s blog, a nice article about the power of the Disc shield was published lately. His post inspired me to extend his math in a simple way.

The assumption of a pure 5% increase of our shields is used in this post. I am aware that some theorycrafters estimate the actual value at something about 4.3%.

A table with 5 columns is included to clarify the power of the T10 4p.

  • The 1st column represents the amount of spellpower a Disc Priest has.
  • The 2nd column represents the maximum amount of damage a shield can absorb (this is based on Penancepriest’s calculator).
  • The 3rd column is the same as the 2nd column but includes the 5% increase by the T10 4p bonus.
  • The 4th column represents the difference between the 2nd and the 3rd column (the additional amount a shield can absorb because of the T10 4p).
  • The 5th column is the most interesting. This column represents the amount of spellpower you would need in order to increase the power of our shields by 5%.

To clarify the effect of the T10 4p, I use my own character as an example. Currently, I’m at 3333 spellpower unbuffed, let’s say I’m at 3300 for convenience. If you look at the 3300 spellpower row in the table, the 5th column mentions the number 260. This means I would normally need an additional 260 spellpower to gain the 5% effect.

260 extra spellpower on my shields is a lot. In my case, 60% of my healing is from shields. 60% of 260 spellpower is 156 spellpower.

Because of this change, I doubt non-T10 pieces can beat ilvl 264 T10 pieces.

Rotface brings Trauma

Two days ago I was the lucky Dwarf to loot a new main hand: Trauma. I’ll investigate the effect of this Mace the upcoming weeks.
